A Fresh Concept of Software-resemblant Hardware to Leap to 6G and Future Networks
Micro/Nanotechnologies as Enablers of Pervasivity
About this book
In the last decade, we witnessed an unprecedented spread of services and applications on the move, supported by the relentless evolution of telecommunication systems, technologies and standards. To date, less than 30 years after the commercial diffusion of cellular phones (under the umbrella of 2G), for a large part of the society in developed countries, it seems inconceivable to have a mobile handset just for placing voice calls and exchanging short text
messages.
All of this was possible thanks to the evolution of hardware (HW) technologies, especially in the fields of electronics and semiconductors, along with that of software (SW), although the main co-design approach to the development of HW–SW devices, systems and infrastructure, remained unaltered across the past half a century.
